Winter Welcome

Planning to start your Mizzou journey with the spring semester? Winter Welcome Orientation will give you the tools you need to start strong.

Orientation & Advising are two processes designed to help you get ready for life at Mizzou. Read on about how to get started and what to expect.

Orientation (Winter Welcome)

Starting November 1, go to your Application Status Page to complete the Reservation Form to sign up.

Register Now

During your orientation session, you will:

  • Learn what to expect in your first weeks at Mizzou, and get a preview of college life and resources available on campus.
  • Get to know other Tigers and your future classmates.
  • Meet your Summer Welcome Leaders, who are current Mizzou students ready to answer your questions and share their insider knowledge of campus.

How to sign up

View and complete your steps in the checklist on your Application Status Page:

  • Starting November 1, complete the New Student Programs Reservation Form to sign up for the session date that works best for you.
  • Sessions will take place in December and January. If circumstances prevent you from attending in person, there is one virtual session available.

Prepare for your session

Once you’ve reserved your session, you’ll get access to the online Orientation & Advising course. Check the Pre-Orientation module for details on completing your next steps:

  • Set up your Mizzou email (and check it frequently!)
  • Submit a photo to get your Student ID
  • Send us your final transcripts
  • Fulfill Mizzou’s immunization requirements

Reservation details: guests, changes, and cancellations

Reservations for Guests

You’ll need to reserve a space for yourself and each person (guest) attending with you.

Note: space for each session is limited. Wait to make hotel and travel reservations until after your orientation reservation is confirmed.

Reservation Changes

If you need to change the date of your session or add guests to your reservation, return to the New Student Programs Reservation Form and select from any of the open dates displayed there.

If the session date that you want is no longer available, please select another date that works for you. After that, you can check the NSP Reservation Form regularly to see if any spots have opened up on the date you preferred.

Changes must be made no later than three business days before your scheduled session. After the three-day window has closed, you may call or email to make changes at 573-884-9868 or summerwelcome@missouri.edu.

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your orientation session, you can do so on the NSP Reservation Form. Cancellations using the form must be made at least three business days before your scheduled session.

If your plans to attend Mizzou for the spring semester have changed, log in to your Application Status Page to decline your admission.

Winter Welcome Schedule

These schedules give a general overview of Winter Welcome Orientation sessions. If you’re attending in person, you’ll receive a detailed schedule, including session locations, when you check in on campus. If you’re attending a virtual session, you’ll get a complete schedule, including Zoom links and other helpful information, by email.

Guests and students will be together in some sessions and separate in others. But don’t worry — after separate sessions, you’ll return to a central location where you can meet up.

Presentations begin shortly after check-in.

Advising

See the details on your Application Status Page.

Separately from your orientation session, you’ll have a one-on-one appointment with an academic advisor from your new academic home (either from the department that houses your chosen major, or the Discovery Center if you haven’t decided on one yet). Your advisor will ask you about your goals, help you choose classes, and get you registered for your first semester at Mizzou.

How to schedule your appointment

Start the scheduling process in your Application Status Page. The first step is to fill out and submit the Academic Advising Appointment Preference Form.

Completing the form early will help your scheduling process move as quickly as possible.

Prepare for your appointment

You’ll get access to the online Orientation & Advising course after you sign up for orientation. Check the Pre-Advising module for details on completing your next steps:

  • Tell your advisor about your academic goals on the Pre-Advising Questionnaire.
  • Learn about your academic home (the school or college that houses your chosen major).
  • Get ready for your advising appointment with the Pre-Advising Acknowledgement.
