Welcome Week is a series of more than 150 events designed to welcome new students as they begin college life at Mizzou. Welcome Week begins right after Wednesday’s Move-In with First Roar – a large spirit rally with more than 4000 new students.
As an incoming student, you’ll be part of a small group of other new students. These groups will be led by a Welcome Week Leader, a current student who has already completed their first year at Mizzou. Together you’ll attend a large concert, spirit rallies, athletic tournaments, video games, crafternoons, and many more social events. You will also find your classrooms, pick up textbooks, and complete other tasks to prepare you for the start of classes.
Welcome Week Student Groups
On-campus students* living in University housing will be assigned to a group within their residence hall and meet their group leader during floor meetings on the evening of Move-In Day.
Off-campus students may join a Welcome Week group by checking in at the main level of the MU Student Center on Move-In Day, Wednesday, August 14 between 7:30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Students who cannot meet at this time but are still interested in being a part of a Welcome Week group should contact the Office of New Student Programs during regular office hours, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Friday at 573-884-9868.
*On-campus students participating in Panhellenic (PHA) or Interfraternity Council (IFC) Recruitment, ROTC, Marching Mizzou, Biome, or the Engineering Bridge program have not been pre-assigned to a Welcome Week group and will attend Welcome Week events as part of the these programs.
Returning MU students serve as Welcome Leaders, guiding students through all the events and leading small group meetings to discuss issues pertaining to new MU students. Leaders create a welcoming atmosphere for our incoming students and provide support to students throughout Welcome Week. A full day training will take place on the Tuesday before the start of Welcome Week. All meals will be provided and each leader will receive a shirt for every day. Students can apply to be a Welcome Leader online (Note: you’ll need to be signed in with your pawprint to apply). The deadline to apply is typically in June.
