Parents & Families

We’re working to make Summer Welcome safe, accessible, and fun for all new members of the Tiger family. Please check your email frequently for details and return to this site for the most up-to-date information.

A student’s transition to Mizzou is shared by the whole family. Attending orientation as a parent or guardian allows you to get answers to your questions and address your concerns about your student’s college journey.

During orientation, family members learn about college life at the University of Missouri.

For Summer Welcome 2021, the guest policy differs between on-campus and virtual formats. Please consider these differences when helping your student choose which type of session to attend.

Virtual Sessions

Up to two guests can be added to a student’s registration for virtual sessions. But as attendance is virtual, more than two guests are welcome to sit in on sessions from a shared computer. Advising appointments are meant to be a one-on-one meeting between the student and their academic advisor, so we ask that parents and guests not attend advising appointments. For virtual sessions, advising appointments will be scheduled for the same day as your Summer Welcome session.

On Campus Sessions

Due to COVID-19 safety measures, on-campus Summer Welcome attendees are limited to one guest per student. Any extra guests that arrive on campus will be asked to leave. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for more information.

All students and guests will be asked to follow safety guidelines, including social distancing and wearing of masks.

Housing & Travel

On-campus Summer Welcome sessions are one-day events, with virtual advising appointments taking place the following day via Zoom. This means you and your student will only need to be in Columbia for the day of your session. Next-day advising can take place anywhere with internet access.

Due to COVID-19 safety considerations, Mizzou will not have on-campus accommodations for students or guests. You will need to make separate travel and hotel reservations if you wish to stay overnight in Columbia. Note: space for each session is limited. Wait to make hotel and travel reservations until after your Summer Welcome registration is confirmed.

Meals

On-campus sessions will include lunch from one of our campus dining halls for each student and their guest.
