Summer Welcome

For new students admitted for the fall semester, Summer Welcome is the next step in your transition to college life.

During this two-day orientation, you’ll get essential information about living and studying at Mizzou.

You will…

  • Learn to find your way around campus
  • Get to know your future classmates
  • Complete any required placement exams
  • Meet with an academic advisor from your chosen major
  • Register for your fall classes

You’ll be guided through your orientation activities by Summer Welcome Leaders, current Mizzou students who are ready to answer your questions and share their insider knowledge of campus.

What to Expect

Below is a sample of the Summer Welcome schedule (you’ll get a complete schedule at check-in). Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and clothes, as you’ll be moving about campus throughout the day.

Day One

Check-in is open from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Day One activities begin around 9 a.m. and end around 11 p.m.

Day Two

Day Two begins around 8 a.m., and you’ll be done by about 2 p.m.

  • Mizzou IT account setup
  • Meet with academic advisors
  • Register for classes
  • Order textbooks
  • Tour a residence hall
  • Tour Greek community

Parking & Check-In

Once you’ve registered, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a link to register your vehicle (you can also complete this step after you arrive by bringing your license plate number to check-in). Parking for orientation is located in the Virginia Avenue Parking Structure, levels 4 and above. This is important: forgetting to register your vehicle or parking in a non-designated area will result in a ticket!

Check-in for Summer Welcome takes place on Day One from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the Rollins Commons, located inside the Hudson and Gillett Residence Halls.

Housing

You’ll stay with a roommate in one of our residence halls and get the chance to hang out with other new students after the official orientation activities have ended for the day.

Note: the $25/night fee, to be paid during registration, includes accommodation in a two-person residence hall bedroom with separate community bathrooms for men and women. If you plan to arrive the night before your Summer Welcome session begins, you can arrange to stay an additional night in the residence hall.

Family members and other guests may also register to stay on campus for $30/night. You can add guests to your registration as needed.

What to Bring

  • Your 8-digit MyZou student number
  • Copies of your transcripts or other documentation of course credit (if not already submitted)
  • Government-issued photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport
  • Completed immunization documentation (if not already submitted)
  • Casual clothes including comfortable walking shoes
  • Umbrella if rain is expected
  • Water bottle
  • Laptop if you want to have it configured to the campus network
  • Bathrobe and shower shoes (residence halls have separate community bathrooms for men and women)
  • Personal toiletries (we will provide towels and bed linens)

Summer Welcome Dates

You’ll receive a confirmation email once you’ve completed your registration. Do not make airline or hotel reservations until you have received this confirmation. If you haven’t received your confirmation email within four business days, please call our office.

 

Optional Activities

Tiger Climb

For an additional $20 fee during select Summer Welcome sessions, you can climb the Alpine Climbing Tower, Mizzou’s 60-foot outdoor climbing structure. Arrive any time between 1 and 3 p.m. on Day Two of your session. Space is limited, and this activity is for students only. Parents and guests are welcome to come and watch from the pavilion.

If you’ve signed up for Tiger Climb, you’ll receive an information packet and waiver at Summer Welcome check-in. You will need to sign the double-sided waiver. Participants under the age of 18 will need their waiver signed by a parent.

What to bring to Tiger Climb:

  • Completed double-sided waiver
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • A hairstyle you can wear a helmet with
  • Water bottle with water
  • Athletic-style clothes
  • Sunscreen
  • Snacks (if you want!)

Venture Out is located off Old Route K, about a 5 minute drive from the main MU campus. Venture Out is not within walking distance of campus. Visit ventureout.missouri.edu/location for directions and important parking information.

In the event of bad weather, a cancellation call will be posted by noon on Facebook @MUVentureOut and on Twitter @MUVentureOut, and a make-up climb will be held in the fall—refunds will not be offered.

Greek Life

Recruitment for Mizzou’s fraternities takes place mid-summer, and sorority recruitment happens just before the fall semester begins. Informal recruitment is also available for students who can’t participate over the summer. You can learn more and sign up for recruitment through the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life at fsl.missouri.edu.

 

Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel your Summer Welcome registration, your registration fee may be refunded if you cancel at least three business days before your scheduled check-in. Cancellations within three days of check-in are not eligible for a refund.

If your plans to attend the University of Missouri for the fall semester have changed, you may receive a refund for your $300 enrollment fee prior to May 1. Visit cancel.missouri.edu for more information on cancelling your admission.
