Name: Blake Ruprecht
Hometown: Wildwood, MO
Academic Major(s): Mechanical Engineering
Who would you say is/are your role model(s)? Why?
My parents. All of the Jedi. Definitely Calvin and Hobbes. Can’t forget Sherlock Holmes. President Theodore Roosevelt. President George Washington. The Navy SEALs are pretty cool. My closest friends. My parents. Dances With Wolves. My sisters. Okay, okay, final answer: those select humans closest to me (family, friends). They inspire me, teach me, and show me the way. In the words of Matthew McConaughey, they are who I look up to, who I look forward to, and who I chase.
What is your favorite spot on campus? Why?
Easy, the Quad. And not just any old Quad, the David R. Francis one. The one with the six most beautiful pillars to grace this earth. The one I can see from some of my engineering classes, which proves quite distracting on beautiful sunny days. If you have any love of grass, or trees, or gorgeous 19th-century architecture, you will find it as I do. Stunning. When the sun is shining, there is no place I would rather be. Outside, surrounded on four sides by lively oaks and the pillars of academia.
If you could do anything with your life, what would you do?
Step 1: Live in a van. Step 2: P.h.D. Step 3: Travel to everywhere cool on this Earth. Step 4: Become a bajillionaire, start a foundation. Step 5: Help the environment, advance justice Step 6: Write a book. Step 7: Convince the entire world to live more in tune with nature, and be nice to one another. And also, get a dog. Family and friends are thrown in there throughout, but that’s an obvious one. Oh, I would like to own a Quik Trip right by my house as well.
What brought you to Mizzou?
My parents. My older sister. The Columns. The Mizzouopoly board game I had growing up. My eternal love of the Panthera tigris. November 24th, 2007. The first time I walked by Jesse Hall as a prospective student. Truman. Homecoming. Sub Shop. My grandpop’s insistence. All of the trees. Stank. The Rec. It’s in my blood, and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
What is your favorite dining hall and why?
Dobbs. Incoming students will never know the joy of a baked potato for lunch every. single. day. from this sacred place. Also known as “Dirty” Dobbs, it is in reality the most immaculate of culinary conceptions here at M.U. If I described Dobbs in one word, it would be “delish”. Annnnnnnnd, it’s gone. Sorry. Emporium is pretty good too.
